Bach Flower Remedies and Your State of Mind

Dr. Edward Bach, who had practiced as a Harley Street consultant, bacteriologist and homoeopath for over 20 years, gave up his lucrative practise to devote his time to developing the simple and natural method of establishing complete equilibrium and harmony to the personality by means of the essences of wild flowers – the Bach Flower Remedies.

Dr. Bach found 38 flowers to cover all known negative states of mind from which a person can suffer and categorised them into seven groups:

  • Fear/Apprehension
  • Uncertainty and indecision
  • Loneliness
  • Insufficient interest in present circumstances
  • Over-sensitivity to influence
  • Despondency and despair
  • Over-care for the welfare of others

What are the Bach Flower Remedies?
The Bach Flower Remedies are prepared from non-poisonous wild flowers.  They are benign in their action, are not habit forming and can be taken by people of all ages with absolute assurance.

The purpose of these flowers is to establish equilibrium between one’s higher self, mind and body, so that when emotional upsets negatively affects wellbeing, the application of specifically related flowers will help bring about the required positive change. They are not meant to treat an illness, but a state of mind.

The Bach Remedies have therefore become an integral part of the whole healing spectrum, not as an alternative or interfering vehicle, but as a very respected complement to many restorative treatments and therapies.

Choosing the Bach Flower Remedies
It is an important part of healing to be aware of why you are taking a remedy since this guides you in a positive direction.

Recognising exactly how you are feeling is very important when it comes to choosing the most appropriate Bach Flower Remedy.  You should first try to pinpoint your feelings at that moment.  Then you can match the exact mood you’re in with the appropriate Remedy.  It is often difficult to admit to our negative emotions – few of us want to see ourselves as jealous or over-protective, for example.  But once you have admitted your feelings, you are halfway towards treating that emotion.  If you find it too difficult to work out our feelings, ask someone who knows you well to assist you.

At least one of the Bach Flower Remedies will be suitable for you – whatever your mood, whatever your problem.  Once you become more familiar with the Bach Flower Remedies that work best for you, you may want to build up your own collection, so that the Remedies applicable to you are ready for you to take, whenever you need them.
