FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Can your body become immune to the Bach® Original Flower Remedies?

No, you won't become immune to the Remedies. Your body develops a resistance to drugs in order to protect itself. As a very safe, natural treatment, the body doesn't need to do this with the Remedies, so you can take them for as long as you need to. However, you may get to a stage where the Remedy has done its job, and you won't need it any more. This may feel like being "immune" to it but is in fact a sign that the particular Remedy has worked.

Can you give a Bach® Original Flower Remedies to someone without them knowing about it?

Yes, although the person will most likely taste them if you place the drops in water or milky beverages so administer it in fruit juice or alcohol (if safe to do so). Babies do not know that they are being given the Remedies, but still benefit from them. This method works well for those who may be incapacitated and unaware of what's going on around them, or who may be strongly opposed to natural treatments.

My friend says Bach® Original Flower Remedies work because of the placebo effect, but I know from experience that they have a distinct action. How can I explain to him that they really do work?

Placebo effect is when a patient responds to medication that is actually ineffective, simply because the person believes or imagines it has an effect. However, this is definitely not the case with Bach® Original Flower Remedies – they work very well on animals and small children, who have no preconceived ideas of what a remedy should do. Also, people in a very bad mood or who don't believe in natural remedies (i.e. are not susceptible to auto-suggestion) find themselves surprised by how well they work. We can safely say that they definitely have a powerful effect on the emotions and that this cannot entirely be attributed to the placebo effect.

For how long can one take the Bach® Original Flower Remedies?

You can take them for as long as you need them, without side effects and without becoming "immune" to their effects. However, if a Remedy has been taken for months on end, without any change in the way you are feeling, it may be that you have selected the incorrect Remedy or that something more serious is at fault. Reconsider the situation and try a different Remedy by identifying the root cause of your feelings, or consult your doctor.

Can I mix more than one Remedy, and if so, how do I go about it?

Yes, it is possible to mix up to seven of the Remedies together (Bach Rescue™ Remedy counts as one). Use a clean dropper bottle, and almost fill it with spring water. Add two drops of any Remedy – if you only use one, add only two drops of it; if, for example, you need three different Remedies, you would add two drops of each one. If using Bach Rescue™ Remedy, use four drops. Add all the Remedies you have selected to your bottle of spring water, and take two drops of the whole ‘mix' four times a day.

I see that Bach® Original Flower Remedies contain alcohol, which I cannot use. Does this mean I should avoid taking the Remedies?

The Bach® Original Flower Remedies are made in spring water and preserved with a little brandy. Some people cannot take alcohol, whether due to pregnancy, recovery from alcoholism, religious reasons or personal preference. In this case, apply the Remedies to the skin, notably the inner wrists and elbows. Another alternative is to pour boiling water over the drops (allow to cool before drinking), causing the alcohol to evaporate. Bach Rescue™ Remedy is available in cream form, with the addition of Crab Apple (the "Cleansing Remedy") for easy external application.

I dread Monday mornings, as I have no energy or excitement to go to work. What can I use to give me more get-up-and-go?

Hornbeam is called the "vitality flower" and is used for that typical "Monday morning" feeling. Those who wake up tired, are weary in body and mind, and suffer from work- and society-related boredom will benefit from Hornbeam. Add two drops to water and sip upon waking up; thereafter, take as needed to change listlessness to mental freshness.

How is the name "Bach", in Bach® Original Flower Remedies, pronounced?

Dr Edward Bach's family originated from Wales, where it is pronounced the same way as the German composer's name. Technically, this is correct. When Edward Bach began his medical training, his English colleagues pronounced it "Batch", which is how it has been said ever since. At Mount Vernon, where his remedies have since been made, both ways are accepted as correct.
